About Me
Hi All... My name is Jim Marshall, I am one of several Academy of Model Aeronautics Associate Vice Presidents for District VIII, I live in deep south Texas in the McAllen-Mission area of the Lower Rio Grande Valley, a very popular tourist destination during colder weather due to our sub tropical location...Yes, it's very nice here.
I am a retired University/Public School educator and now grow organic oranges, grapefruits, lemons & pecan nuts as part of South Texas Organics Association. I am married to a lovely lady, Gwen, for 40 years and have two children and 3 grandkids. My wife & I also raise exotic birds ( parrots ) which are native to this area of the USA..
I have been an aviation aficianado ( nut ) all my life and began building model airplanes in late 1944, my first was a Comet Phantom Flash and surprisingly it flew across the small front yard of my parent's home...I was hooked !! I am a member & participant in several aviation organizations; Texas Aviation Historical Society, EAA, CAF, AMA, WMWA, FAI, NSRCA, and many others. I was asked to be an AVP for AMA District VIII 12 years ago and have enjoyed every minute of it. I also occasionally fly real aircraft but not as much as I used to, I am currently restoring a 1947 Aeronca 11-BC Chief...it's been a long slow process, I think I would prefer to again design, build and fly my own aircraft to rid myself of all the red tape of rebuilding manufactured aircraft. I also have other interests, sexy sport cars...a Corvette and a Triumph TR-6 ..Believe it or not, my TR-6 can "smoke" the Corvette when running from stop light to stop light....The TR-6 has a 'hot water' 6 cylinder engine but is a brute when the throttles are opened up...
