Slope soaring is one of my favorite ways to fly so I've been looking for potential sites since moving back to New Mexico. I think I found two sites today. Actually, they look so good I can't imagine that they won't work. One faces north and the other should work with winds from the southwest to north-northwest. The slope facing the north is about 50 feet high but pretty steep so should provide decent lift. It has a good landing zone, a "Y" in the oilfield roads, that is free of vegetation and doesn't have any large rocks and is accessible in a passenger car. The west facing slope is about 350 high and looks like it wil produce excellent lift. It's accessible by passenger car if you're willing to walk the last 100-150 yards. The last 150 yards has some significant water runoff ruts and will require a vehicle with at a minimum good clearance and possibly 4 wheel drive. If the road gets graded it will be accessible in a passenger car again. The site is at a large oilwell pad so there's good parking and lots of room to land. Both are a little west of Loco Hills. I'll explore them with airplanes at the first opportunity. I think there are more good sites closer to Maljamar but haven't figured out how to get to them yet. David
