Cloud Dusters RC Club Hobbs America (New Mexico) District VIII

FLY! FLY! FLY!

Update February 18, 2010

On behalf of the Officers and club members of the Cloud Dusters R/C Club of Hobbs, we want to send our heartfelt sympathy out to Lance and his family. Lance had a fire on the 13th at his residence that pretty much totaled out his stuff. Lance let us know if their is anything we can do to help...

Lance jumped back into the hobby a couple of months ago after a two year sabadical. He's been doing some great flying and advanced to a Big 260 gasser with and 85cc DA... So he's not just back but back in a big way...

I visited with Eric, James and Paul at the Event Center and as always had an enjoyable exchange of Stories and Flying. Coming from work for a break I didn't have any gear and Eric handed me the transmitter

Expect to hear an announcement from the Leadership team about a date for our 1st Quarter club meeting where discussions about events for 2010, field safety guidelines and the field cleanup plan will be discussed. Get your ideas together for all...

Congratulations to Mike Watkins for his hometown NFL Football team the Mighty New Orleans Saints winning the Super bowl.  Mike moved to Hobbs about a year and a half ago with Halliburton to head up the Hobbs District Cementing department.  Mike took up flying Model Airplanes and progressed quickly. His flying skills and knowledge of the hobby has grown a lot in the last year.

Mike's son Wyatt has also taken up the hobby with Dad and is also doing well.  Wyatt could nominated as the leader of the Jr Squadron of the club (Tommy F will propose to the club at the next meeting). The proposed name for the Jr Squadron will be known as the Varmint Squadron.

Tommy comments: I was the first Junior member of the club in Mission, Texas in 1973 when I learned to fly R/C.  My mentor Lt Col Arthur Brock duly named me the Squadron Leader of the Varmints in 1974 after I soloed.  He called Momma and told her to make sure I wore an old shirt (with shirt tail) that day. Upon landing Art got out his shears while Art's wife Ethel (Seniora Gasolina) and Juan Navarro distracted and held me and Art cut off my Shirt tail."

Anyway, Congrats Mike...
